Patrice Désilets Confirms Complete Removal of AI Tools From 1666: Amsterdam Development

Patrice Désilets, the acclaimed designer behind the original Assassin's Creed titles, revealed that generative AI technology has been completely phased out from the development of his project, 1666: Amsterdam. According to Désilets, AI tools were briefly utilized during the initial ideation and pre-production phases—often considered the most creative stage of game design—but have now been entirely eliminated from the production workflow. The development team decided to rely exclusively on human artistry, crafting, and design to bring the historical setting to life. This move underscores a growing discussion within the gaming industry regarding the role of automated technology in creative fields, with the studio choosing to prioritize authentic human craftsmanship and vision over machine-generated assets for the game's final release.
