Resident Evil Movie Director Focuses on Grounded T-Virus Storyline Over Fantastical Game Elements
Zach Cregger, the director helmimg the upcoming live-action Resident Evil feature film, revealed that his adaptation will step back from the more fantastical storytelling elements introduced in recent video game entries. Speaking during a recent Q&A session, Cregger explained his decision to keep the movie grounded by centering the narrative squarely on the classic T-Virus, aiming to deliver a realistic biological horror experience. He noted that while he personally enjoys the over-the-top lore of games like Resident Evil Village, translating supernatural transformations or unexplainable character designs to film requires logical restraint. For instance, he avoided including overly stylized bioweapons like Mr. X unless their presence fits seamless narrative logic. Cregger humorously added that he wouldn't survive a single day in the grounded, terrifying world he is creating for cinema.
