Squadron 42 Delayed to 2027 as Developer Seeks to Avoid GTA 6
Cloud Imperium Games has officially announced a major delay for Squadron 42, the standalone single-player campaign set in the Star Citizen universe. Originally slated for an earlier release, the ambitious space title is now scheduled to launch in the second quarter of 2027. Studio head Chris Roberts explained that the decision was driven primarily by the impending release of Grand Theft Auto 6. Roberts noted that launching alongside Rockstar's massive blockbuster would inevitably drown out attention for other titles, making a release date adjustment necessary to give Squadron 42 the spotlight it deserves. After years of prolonged development, the studio aims to leverage this additional time to refine gameplay mechanics and polish the overall experience. By stepping out of GTA 6's shadow, Cloud Imperium Games hopes to ensure a smoother commercial launch and satisfy its long-waiting community.
